Yokohama, Japan, October 1, 2002 (JCN Newswire)
- INNOTECH Corporation (JASDAQ: 9880), one of Japan's leading
semiconductor trading companies, agreed to act as a sales
and support agent for Japanese semiconductor device modeling
company MODECH Inc.
Established in July 2002 by senior engineers
each with more than ten years of experience in device modeling,
MODECH provides modeling services for the development and
design of integrated circuits for making optimal use of
cutting-edge semiconductor processing technologies such
as nanotechnology, SOI and SiGe (silicon germanium).
MODECH possesses world-class technology covering
the measurement, evaluation and analysis of semiconductor
processes, devices and circuits, and model construction.
The company provides its customers with the advanced modeling
expertise essential for high precision circuit simulations,
which allow designers to measure a range of IC characteristics
such as delay, noise, frequency, and distortion more efficiently.
Toshifumi Kaneko, Director of INNOTECH
and General Manager of the Cadence Technology Division
"Taking responsibility for the sales of MODECH's modeling services will
allow INNOTECH to create the design environments its customers need to cut down
their time to market. This is expected to pay great dividends in complementing
our existing sales of Cadence's design tools. We are also confident that our
partnership with MODECH will take us a step closer to becoming a total solutions
supplier playing an integral role in our customers' business operations.
Hitoshi Aoki, President and Representative
Director, MODECH
"INNOTECH is renowned for the trust placed in it by its semiconductor-related
clients and the excellence of its technology. We here at MODECH are therefore
extremely pleased to be able to consign the company our product sales and service
provision operations. Our own consultants will now be free to focus their efforts
on developing and providing the kind of services required to solve ever more
demanding problems."
High precision circuit simulations increase
the efficiency of the design process but require highly
accurate semiconductor libraries that themselves require
considerable expense and cutting-edge expertise to develop.
Japanese semiconductor makers and IC developers have therefore
encountered significant problems developing precise device
modeling techniques.
Japanese companies in particular have trouble
attaining the parameters required to create accurate simulations
on the basis of device size for SOI and bulk CMOS device
models used in the design of ICs.
INNOTECH is currently responsible for sales of the IC
design tools of U.S. company Cadence. Adding MODECH's modeling
services to its line-up is an integral part of the company's
plan to be able to provide its customers with a full range
of solutions relating to circuit simulation environments.
Management expects annual sales of over 1 billion yen in
three years' time.
MODECH is also actively involved in device
modeling research, and its annual new technology presentations
at relevant international conventions, such as those of
IEICE (the institute of electronics, information and communication
engineers), have received great praise within the industry.
Glossary
- SOI(Silicon On Insulator):
- The result of creating transistors on
insulation layers which are created directly on top of
silicon wafers. Contrasts with those methods in which CMOS
transistors are created on silicon wafers via lithographic
and diffusion-based processes.
-
- SiGe(Silicon Germanium):
- Shorthand name for a type of transistor used in high-speed
devices, in which germanium is used in conjunction with silicon.
-
- Circuit Simulation:
- A simulation of the functioning of those circuits composed
of minimum-size devices, such as transistors and resistors.
-
- High-Accuracy Semiconductor Library:
- A collection of all the high-accuracy information required
to produce simulations.
-
- Modeling,Modeling Techniques:
- Circuit simulations require the describing
of data relating to the basic functioning of all relevant
transistors, be they MOS or SOI. This information, which
outlines the characteristics of the transistor in question,
is brought together in a file known called a model file.
Creating model files necessitates the creation of actual
transistors, the measurement of their characteristics,
and the prediction of key aspects of their performance.
Modeling refers to this process in its entirety, from measurement
right through to the creation of model files.
